Additional info: This song was written one hot August day. I had just come from a music lesson, and I saw a pretty young woman, dressed in a very short top and skirt. She was swinging her hips and had her head held high. She passed a group of young men. they all stared, and whistled as one man.
The words kind of just popped into my head.
Truthfully, this song would be better sung by a man, but there wasn't one handy when we recorded the song.
It was recorded in fall of 2002, at Tim John's Studio in Brampton, Ontario. Tim does all the guitar work, and that's me on vocals.
Hey Little Girl is on the Shady Blues album which came out in January 2005
Additional info: This song was inspired by a lovely jazz singer who wasa close friend, and who recently passed away. She had this wonderful voice and it just drew you in.
A bass player friend came up with the great harmonics and runs in the song, and recorded his tracks in his home studio. Later I took this long to Tim Johns' studio and Tim added some rhythm guitar. I did the vocals.
After it was recorded, I posted it on AcidPlanet, and it went to number 1 in Jazz withiin 2 hours of being posted.
For laughs, I sent this particular song to some critics in Nashville - they HATED it! Wow, those cats could not say enough rude things about the song. Oh well, they turned down Hank Williams, so I shouldn't feel too upset.
